Szilard Gaspar

b. 1991, Romanian

It is clear to say Szilard Gaspar has two main avocations in life. The first, being a professional sportsman as a boxer, the second as an artist. These two activities do not co-exist in separate spheres in the life of the young Romanian; in fact, they are intertwined, one drenched in the other. As a result, the first is a thread throughout the latter, transforming boxing into an artistic practice.

Szilard Gaspar, born in 1991 in Satu Mare, Romania, studied at the Highschool of Arts Aurel Popp in Satu-Mare, before achieving his Bachelor’s Degree in Ceramics in 2013, followed by his Master’s Degree in Sculpture in 2015 at the University of Arts & Design in Cluj-Napoca. At the same university, in 2020, he also completed his Ph.D. in Visual Arts. The Romanian performance artist and sculptor has had solo and group shows at renowned institutions such as the Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca, Romania; the Romanian Institute for Culture in Lisbon, Portugal; the Art Encounters Biennial in Timisoara, Romania; the Romanian Institute for Culture in Vienna, Austria and the Pingyao Art Museum in Pingyao, China.

Szilard Gaspar resides and works in Cluj, Romania.
